A Christmas Home Tour

There is something magical about Christmas. It’s the time of the year where kids (and adults) are free to believe in the magic of Santa Claus, giving and love is abundant, and baking and eating cookies is expected, not discouraged. What isn’t there to love about Christmas?

And to make things even more magical, we got a white Christmas. Look at how Hallmark-movie-Christmas this looks:

Entryway Christmas Home Tour

So I will start our tour with the entryway, which I will definitely do a post in the new year with the before and after of this room because it’s amazing. Matt built me those shelves by the way.

I had a really hard time finding a faux garland that I liked, and I finally just bit the bullet with real garland. It was pretty but such a pain with shedding. Also, it was so late in the season that apart from adding some lanterns, I didn’t do much else with the stairs this year.

The chairs in the library (I can’t believe I have a library) are from Ikea - the Stocksund. I am so in favor of Ikea chairs with removable covers. I’ve been debating what the next color will be. As pretty as the green is, I kept it more for seasonal color, not for everyday color. Any ideas?

Fun fact, the lanterns are actually from outside under the gazebo. We brought them in for the winter, and I repurposed it.

Our Christmas Styled Dining Room

Next, I will take you into the dining room. In case you forgot, this dining room used to be mint chocolate chip ice cream with green walls and black trim. But we’re putting that in the past. For now, I just want to have as many dinner parties as I possibly can - but I can’t because of COVID. So now I just randomly set the table for non-existent parties.

The “vase” is one of Matt’s homebrewing bottles (called a carboy I’m told - not cardboard like what I heard), nicely decorated with some faux stems I got from Target.

We did some light decorating in the dining space that we have off the kitchen.

Christmas Living Room Tour

We spent the most time in the living room than any other room, and, of course, it had the Christmas tree. Naturally, that makes it my favorite room in the house.

One of the best moments of the Christmas season for me is putting up the tree and holding all the ornaments I’ve collected over the years. Each time I place an ornament on the tree, memories surface of moments in time and people I love. Every ornament is a time capsule, capturing a singular moment or memory of someone. Isn’t Christmas magical?

And then there is the fireplace. When we were house shopping, as soon as I saw this room, I knew it was the one. I could picture the tree in the corner, the stockings on the fireplace, and my family spread across the room. The fireplace is beautiful with all its original details, and I didn’t want to detract from that at all. I could just stare at it forever!

And our new couches are here! We got the Ikea Farlov 3-seater sofa, and right now, I have them covered with covers I got from Bemz. The sofa is extremely comfortable, practically the size of a twin bed. Matt and I throw all the pillows on the floor and cuddle for movies all the time.

The window frame was one of the first “projects” I did with Matt. We found that window frame at a marketplace in Lancaster called Building Character. It had such interesting things, and I am dying to go back. But this was originally green and we sanded it down to the white underneath. You still see pieces of the green if you look closely, and it makes a great spot to hang a wreath.

I’m really going to miss the Christmas season. So on a final note of this tour, I will end with another fireplace. This time, it’s the fireplace in our bedroom.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
